Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Death.
The afterlife.
Sensitive subjects.
I know.
I don’t fear death.
I just feel bad about it.
The worst isn’t even my own death,
but the people I love.
So here I am.
In my favorite bar.
With my favorite people,
that I love with all my heart.
For a second I thought :
One day,
all these amazing people,
that have been with me through so much shit.
That shared with me so many moments.
Laughs, tears, blood.
Will just vanish from this world.
How depressing is that ?
Life is a killer my friend.
There’s nothing easy about it,
besides peeing in the shower.
Someday,
everyone you know will be dead.
The world will be flooded with new faces.
New stories.
New presidents.
New genius billionaires.
New artists.
New lanscapes.
Well,
that’s kind of the twisted beauty of it.
But either way,
everything you do,
will contribute to this universe’s narrative.
You’ll change so many more lives than you can imagine.
Everything you touch.
Every interaction you have.
It will have a part of you,
and will make part of you.
So, back to the bar.
I was having this devastating thoughts about my loved one’s destiny.
I started to reflect, on the options we have,
in regards to the afterlife.
You either have the religious perspective,
or the scientific one.
Deep down,
Nobody knows shit for sure.
How could you, right ?
Catholics and muslims,
believe there’s a heaven to the goodie goodies,
and a hell for the sinners.
By the way,
I would to love to see who the fuck ends up in heaven.
I’m sure there are more priests burning in hell,
than enjoying the Lord’s backyard.
But that’s not the point.
Hindus, jews and buddhists,
claim that the soul reincarnates,
as other life forms.
And scientists defend that when you die,
that’s it,
nothing else,
pure emptyness.
As I’m not a big fan of religion,
and the scientific theory is terribly depressing,
I decided I will create my own view on the matter.
A new theory on afterlife.
I’m gonna share it with you now.
So,
let’s star from the beggining.
In this case,
the moment we die.
Ironic, right ?
After your body shuts down,
your soul will be spat out of your corpse,
to outter space,
in a shapeless body,
at lightspeed,
far far away,
until it arrives at a distant dimension.
Each soul has its own dimension.
Here, there’s no time or space.
Just the most comfortable couch you could imagine,
a pack of tissues,
a remote control,
and a fucking huge floating screen.
HD, obviously.
In this screen,
You’ll have a film of your whole life.
From the second you were born,
till the second you died.
You’ll have access to all your memories.
Happy or sad.
You’ll have the chance to watch them,
all over again.
First day of school.
First kiss. First heartbreak.
The moments you met your best friends.
Spring break.
Prom night.
Trips abroad and magical summers.
The best fuck you have had.
The day you met the love of your life.
The birth of your children.
Your big promotion at work.
The ”firsts” of your children.
Your daughter’s wedding.
First Grandchild.
And so on.
Doesn’t that sound amazing ?
It does for me.
At some point,
you might get tired of watching all your memories,
over and over again.
So, if that moment comes,
you’ll transition to the next step of your journey.
This is when you’ll tranform into a glorious bright star.
As a star,
you’ll be able to look and travel to every corner of our infinte universe.
For all eternity.
Starting your own pursuit of the absolut wisdom.
That’s what stars are.
The souls of every being that ever lived in this universe,
in their eternal form.
This theory made me feel better about my friends.
I mean,
Reencarnation is kinda cool,
but it’s a gamble, to be honest.
And heaven is so overrated.
How boring is a place,
where there’s no sickness,
pain or sadness ?
As the great Charles Bukowski once said :
” If you clean a city, you kill it.”
Same shit here.
So, imagining this theory was correct.
How would you live your life ?
What would you do differently ?
What memories would you like to have ?
I’m gonna let you decide for yourself.
Just remeber,
Life isn’t a problem to solve,
it’s an expirience to live.
So expirience it like you mean it.
Go for the love.
Have fun.
So you can arrive at the afterlife,
with a great movie to watch.
And hey,
if we don’t meet during my lifetime,
see you on a starry night.
